Meet our 2010 Volunteer Leadership Team & Day of Coordinators:
Name: Erin Creak
Volunteer Role/s: Registration Manager
Number of years with Suburban RUSH: Going on 5 years
Motivation for being involved: I don't mountain bike ride, so this is my only opportunity to be involved in adventure racing. It's also an extremely organized event which means that volunteering is a breeze.
Name: Stephanie Masterman
Volunteer Role/s: Data Entry Clerk & Checkpoint Coordinator
Number of years with Suburban RUSH: 3 years racing & 2 years volunteering (Going on 6 years)
Motivation for being involved: To see all the excitement and enthusiasm on the racers' faces during the race, to spend a day outside with good friends and to motivate myself to get back into adventure racing!
Favourite Suburban RUSH memory: Racing in 2008 after having a baby - I definitely wasn't my fittest and because of this it was my biggest accomplishment in my adventure racing history - I really had to push myself to finish in a respectable time (after falling to dead last in the run portion) and felt proud to cross the finish line middle of the pack. **Note: Stephanie has completed over 10 adventure racers including a 36 hour race**
Name: Tanya McCarthy
Volunteer Role/s: Checkpoint Coordinator (2005) & Volunteer Manager (2006-present)
Number of years with Suburban RUSH: Going on 6 years.
Motivation for being involved: I can't say no to Dean and it's a lot of fun!
Favourite Suburban RUSH memory: At the inaugural Suburban Rush, my husband Duncan was warning people of a bear that showed up near the checkpoint station. Many racers misunderstood his Australian accent and were looking for beers.
Name: Janet Shaw
Volunteer Role/s: Refreshment Coordinator & Recycling Coordinator
Number of years with Suburban RUSH: Going on 6 years
Motivation for being involved: My motivational brother, Dean
Favourite Suburban RUSH memory: Watching all the racers smile as they come over the finish line. The most memorable is the women that was last to cross the finish line. She toughed her way through the course over 6 hours and still had a smile and that proud look of achievement on her face. I will never forget as she hugged her partner.
